Writing on a palm-leaf scroll.


An iron stylus mounted on a piece of wood was the implement used to write on a palm-leaf. The stylus was grasped in the hand as shown above. When one wanted to read it a crushed leaf was smeared on the written material to make the indentations stand out. The writing instrument was called 'Eluththaani' in Tamil meaning 'nail used to write letters'.

The 'Mobile Workshop' takes the Urban Council to the villages. All problems related to the dealings with the Urban Council are sorted out here. The Mayor Mr.Pinto and his staff go to meet the villages. The houses numbering 400 were visited individually by selected members and volunteers. A lot of outstanding problems were sorted out.
