Dowa ancient rock temple, Bandarawala - Badulla road, Sri Lanka

The roadside name-board

The sculpture of Lord Buddha.

Close-up of the sculpture.

The statue of Lord Buddha in a cave below the statue.

Paintings in the cave.
The large standing statue of Lord Buddha in the open air is said to have been done in one day by a master in the art. It is plausible because the rock is quite flaky and not hard granite. The rock-temple is adjacent to the highway but one has to climb some steps down to view it.
