Dimbulagala to Manampitiya, Sri Lanka.

Past Dimbulagala on the Manampitiya road.
Lush green fields are seen here as the diverted Mahaweli waters irrigate these fields in the dry zone of Sri Lanka. The roads are being relaid and should be a superb highway in the future.

Dead elephant, Manampity, Sri Lanka

Driving along the road paralleling the railway track at Manampitiya we saw this elephant's dead body. It had been struck by a train and had fallen down and died.
'The count conducted last month in forests and wildlife parks found 5,879 wild elephants, of which 122 are tuskers and 1,107 calves'.

Old and new bridges at Manampitiya, Sri Lanka.

There were two bridges accommodating both rail and road traffic at Manampitiya and Ottamawady on the road to Batticaloa in Sri Lanka. New separate concrete bridges have been built for each of these now. The bridge at Manampitiya spans the Mahawely Ganga the biggest river in Sri Lanka. I took these pictures of the old and new bridges recently while on a trip to Batticaloa.
