Dimbulagala to Manampitiya, Sri Lanka.

Past Dimbulagala on the Manampitiya road.
Lush green fields are seen here as the diverted Mahaweli waters irrigate these fields in the dry zone of Sri Lanka. The roads are being relaid and should be a superb highway in the future.

Looking upstream from the bridge across the Mahaweli Ganga at Mahiyangana. This bridge was built on Canadian aid in the 1950s. Before the bridge was built it was a ferry ride to visit the Mahiyangana Sthupa.

Road to Mahiyangana

The road past Hasalaka
Approaching Mahiyangana
The road past the 18 hairpin bends towards Mahiyangana is still green in spite of the drought. This is due to the irrigation schemes functioning from ancient times and recently renovated.

'Sorabora Wewa' and the 18 hairpin bends.

'Sorabora Wewa' seen before the 18 elbow bends.
Highway in the elbow bends region.
Coming down from Madugoda to the 18 hairpin bends leading to Hasalaka is a superb sight. Far away in the valley you can see the 'Sorabora Wewa' which irrigates the paddy fields around Mahiyangana.
