The ceremonial placing of the head dress termed the 'Ves mangalya' for members of an oriental band, takes place at an auspicious hour. The members to be inducted go on a vegetarian diet for a few days prior to this. 'Pirith' is chanted at the auspicious hour and the mothers place the head dress on their sons.

'Kiri-bath, Konde kavum, Kokis, Mung kavum, Aasmi, Athiraha, pine-apple, plantains and apples are laid out. This is used at a ceremony where the newly-wed couple feed each other.

The 'Poruwa' and after in a Sinhalese wedding, Sri Lanka.

The 'Poruwa' where the Bride & Groom are made to stand during the wedding ceremony in a Sinhalese wedding.

I saw this beautiful emerald green Dragon-fly, skimming the flowing water at the Alupola Falls in Rathnapura. When the wings are open the full beauty of it can be appreciated. It moves rapidly and is difficult to photograph.
