'Pirith Mandapaya' and Kandyan Drummers at the Pirith ceremony, Eheliyagoda, Sri Lanka.

'White-throated Kingfisher', Avissawella, Sri Lanka.

One of the commonest and most flamboyant birds in Sri Lanka, the 'White-throated Kingfisher' - Halcyon smernencis - rarely fishes. It survives by eating bees, dragon-flies, lizards etc. It has a loud cry.

Pleasure boats on the Diyawanna lake, Kotte, Sri Lanka.


Paddle boats in the shape of swans can be hired to be used on the Diyawanna Lake by the side of the road to the Parliament at Kotte.
