Dating back to the British Colonial times more than one hundred years, this garden in the centre of Nuwara Eliya draws many visitors. Entrance fee Rs.100/- Sri Lankans and Rs.300/- for foreigners.

The temple at Seetha Eliya on the Hakgala to Nuwara Eliya road is claimed to be the site where Seethadevi the wife of Rama was held captive by Ravana the King of Sri Lanka. This is the theme legend of the Ramayana the Indian Epic.

We DID NOT enter the Hakgala Gardens as the entry fee for non Sri Lankan Identity Card holders was Rs.1100/- each. A Sri Lankan bystander told us to see the Nuwara Eliya Gardens where the show was better and cheaper - Rs.300/- for foreigners. No ID card was needed to prove that you were a Sri Lankan.
