Nuwara Eliya to Ella, Sri Lanka.

The old British colonial building housing the Post-office at Nuwara Eliya.

The statue of Lord Buddha at Dowa.

The hills of Uva.

Hill close to the Ella Rest House.
The drive from Nuwara Eliya to Ella is  downhill all the way. From the central highlands of Sri Lanka to the plains of Badulla is beautiful. The carpeted roadway leads between misty mountains past Hakgala and Welimada. The busy town of Bandarawala leads to Dowa where the roadside Buddhist temple boasts of a standing statue of Lord Buddha carved on a rock. This carving is claimed to have been done in one day by a sculptor a few centuries ago. Going past Demodara where the railway line from Colombo to Badulla makes a loop on itself one comes to the turnoff to Wellawaya. This road climbs the hill to traverse the 'Ella Gap' in the mountains. Coming down hill the Ella Rest House stands about 500 meters on the right hand side. The view from the Rest House is absolutely stunning..

Victoria Park, Nuwara Eliya Sri Lanka.

The clear mountain air, the soft caressing breeze, bird songs and children playing what tranquility and peace there was in this place.
