Watching the sunset at Galleface green is a very soothing hobby. Queenie V took this photo. You can see the lights on the ships at the entrance to the Colombo harbor.

I took this photo on an SLR in the 1980s, near the Rest House, Batticaloa. Colour photos were available at that time but were too expensive.

Sunset at Avissawella.

The beauty of sunsets in Sri Lanka is a topic we hardly discuss. You need time to relax and watch it. The merging of myriads of colors on the cloudsis really impressive.

Sunset at Wellawaththe beach, Sri Lanka.

Sunsets are always beautiful. The colors change from moment to moment and over a few minutes almost all the colors of the rainbow are seen. Even after the red ball of the sun goes below the horizon, the display of colors is awesome. This was one of a series of pictures I took at Wellawathe beach, in Sri Lanka.

Wellawaththe beach was a regular haunt for us as Medical Students, in the early 1960s. The colorful sunsets and the people on the beach, have not changed much. There are now high rise apartment blocks close to the beach across the railway line and across the new four lane marine drive. The stiff breeze getting colder after sunset are a permanent feature here.

Tropical sunsets are gorgeous. The ideal places to watch sunsets are from the Eastern seaboard or across a stretch of water with an uncluttered horizon. It could also be enjoyed from a hillside. The above picture was taken by me at Avissawella where the horizon was cluttered with trees. It gave a pleasing effect.
