Mahaweli Ganga at Mahiyangana

Looking upstream from the bridge across the Mahaweli Ganga at Mahiyangana. This bridge was built on Canadian aid in the 1950s. Before the bridge was built it was a ferry ride to visit the Mahiyangana Sthupa.

Rev.Ault, landing site, Puliyanthivu, Batticaloa

The place where the Rev. William Ault landed at Puliyanthivu in 1824, is remembered by the monument called the 'Batticaloa Gate'. There is a statue of the reverend close by. You can get a lovely view of the 'Kottamunai bridge from this site. I have included a photograph of same.

Jungle stream and bridge over it on the Ginigathena - Hatton road. The constant rain and mist keeps these streams running. A severe drought brings them down to a trickle.
